1. Introduction

MyTechHero (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a New Zealand–based technology support service providing on-site and remote assistance for individuals and small businesses.
We are committed to protecting your personal information and respecting your privacy in compliance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information, as well as your rights and how to contact us about any privacy-related matter.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide our services effectively and securely. This may include:

  • Contact details: Name, phone number, email address, and physical address.

  • Service details: Information about your devices, systems, and technical issues you report.

  • Billing information: Payment details required to process transactions securely.

  • Technical data: Device specifications, diagnostic logs, or system performance data (for troubleshooting).

  • Communication records: Emails, messages, and support requests.

  • Website usage data: Cookies and analytics (see Section 8).

We collect this information directly from you, or automatically when you use our website or remote support tools.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support.

  • Respond to enquiries, requests, or complaints.

  • Schedule appointments and manage bookings.

  • Process payments and send invoices.

  • Improve service delivery and website functionality.

  • Comply with legal obligations under New Zealand law.

We will only use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, unless we have your consent or are permitted by law to use it otherwise.

4. Remote Access & Device Data

For remote support sessions, we use secure, industry-standard remote-access software (e.g. AnyDesk or TeamViewer).
Access is granted only with your explicit permission and is terminated immediately after the session ends.
We do not store or collect personal files from your device unless required to complete the service and with your consent. Diagnostic or log data may be temporarily stored for troubleshooting and then deleted securely.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal data. However, we may share limited information with trusted third-party providers where necessary, such as:

  • Payment processors (for secure transactions).

  • Remote-support tools (for service delivery).

  • Email and website hosting services (for communication and maintenance).

All third-party partners are required to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and maintain high standards of data security.

6. Data Storage and Security

We take appropriate steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration.
This includes secure digital storage, encrypted communication, and restricted staff access.

If any data breach occurs that may affect your personal information, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

6A. Data Storage & Service Providers

We store personal information securely using a combination of locally managed systems and trusted third-party services. This may include our website host, email and file storage, booking and customer support tools, payment processors, and secure remote-support software. These providers are required to protect personal information and comply with applicable privacy laws. Some providers may process or store data outside New Zealand; where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable safeguards (e.g., contractual protections and security standards).

Examples of services we may use: website hosting and analytics, business email and document storage, ticketing/booking tools, payment processing, and remote-access tools for support.

7. Retention and Deletion

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations.
When data is no longer needed, it will be securely deleted or anonymised.

7A. How Long We Keep Your Information

  • Operational records (job notes, diagnostics, emails relating to a service): kept only as long as needed to deliver support and provide aftercare.

  • Invoices, receipts, and account records: typically retained for up to 7 years to meet tax and business record-keeping requirements.

  • Remote-support logs/temporary diagnostics: kept only as long as necessary for troubleshooting, then deleted securely.

When information is no longer required, we delete it or anonymise it in a reasonable timeframe.

7B. Security Measures (summary)

We use access controls, encrypted connections, and limited staff access on a need-to-know basis. If a notifiable breach occurs, we will inform you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

8. Cookies and Website Analytics

Our website may use cookies or analytics tools (e.g. Wix Analytics, Google Analytics) to improve user experience and track website performance.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings.
